The Management Mavericks of Today have also become the paragon of the corporate dinosaurs. Numerous boards of the german top industry companies go on pilgrimage to Silicon Valley. They do not only want to learn about new products but also from their innovative management and leadership practices.
Hopefully, they will not purely copy everything they see, unreflectedly. Better, they translate those new ideas into their cultures and test them carefully before inegrating new pieces of Code into their DNA.
Apparently, Audi, Bosch, BMW, Daimler, ThyssenKrupp, Siemens & Co will have to change their management principles and leadership culture if they want to keep pace with the new breed of their competitors. But still, they will have to live with quite different basic conditions. Obviously Alphabet is not situated in Essen, it does have a lot fewer employees, a lot more growth potential, no trade unions, no german legislator nor government, basically no physical product and no century-long history.
It is a must, that the german alpha male-companies change. Definitely it will be interesting to see how well they do – this being said, some hundred thousand jobs depend on their success. So, let`s see if elephants can dance.
